Why is the picture on my TV sreen centered?

lcd picture
slick asked:

I just got a 52in Samsung LCD and the picture is in the midlle, meaning that on the left and right side of the screen there is a 3in grey area. So what i am saying is that its not a full picrure or doesnt cover the screen all the way. Is there a way I can adjust it to full screen off the remote?

Can anyone help me with this?

its probably because its in HD? or you can change it with the screen settings and widen it

When you buy something new like this, you have to read that pesky little manual thing that comes in the package.

You are watching standard def 4:3 content on your wide screen TV. There is a button on the remote that allows you to expand the screen so that doesn’t happen, but you really need to read the manual so you can understand the whys of what is going on.

You’re probably looking at 4:3 aspect ratio programming, but your TV has a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The aspect ratio is being preserved so that your people don’t look all squished. It’s a good thing, but if you don’t like it, there is usually a way you can zoom in on it ( this would cut off the top and bottom, fill in the sides, and still keep the aspect ratio) or make the picture wider, which changes the original aspect ratio, so it makes all the elements of the show wider. You may have to look in the user manual. If I were you, I’d just look in the Table of Contents or the Index if it has one. Hope this helps.
