High definition definitely looks the best on my LCD (obviously) but why does non-hd channels seem pixelated and distorted but on my tube tv its crystal clear?

Simple, you are seeing the limits of standard tv broadcast. ON your old tv, it is only capable of 480 lines of resolution, so anybody broadcasting on an SDTV signal looks good on your old tv. On an HDTV these are capable of 720 or 1080 lines of resolution, so you see graininess or the limits of a 480 broadcast.
You should be able to set your tv so it automatically scales for correct picture size. That way you can view a 480 broadcast, just condensed with black bars on the side as well as topand bottom.
Tube tvs are users of standard definition signals while the LCD tv uses a more compressed high definition signal. It may be yor connection to the tv which processes the signal as well that is causing the LCD set to not process the signal as well as the tube tv.
Well first, your OLD TV was designed for OLD signal….
And your NEW TV has to TAKE apart the OLD signal, CONVERT it to the New type of signal that it uses….and that’s why it’s pixellated…
PLUS the Low Def signal on a HI DEF display is going to really show the FLAWs of the OLD signal…….
That’s why it’s distorted…you’re seeing how bad the old signal really was….
I can take a “paint by numbers” kit, and using the paint that comes with it, I can paint a REALLY good Picture……
BUT….If I take that SAME KIT, and use CRAYONS that didn’t come with the kit, Do you think the picture will look as good as or better than the original paints???
NOPE….that’s what your LOW DEF signal is, Crayons. It was designed for Hi Def Paint….
You can improve your picture though….You can switch your signal provider. If you use CABLE, upgrade to DISH….OR better yet, GET Verizon FIOS!! If you don’t have FIOS, wait for it. The LOW DEF picture cannot be beat when you’re dealing with fiber optic cabling coming DIRECTLY to your house….(yes you can UPGRADE to Markers instead of crayons)
Do you…..”Get the Picture” now?
