Why does my LCD tv take about 5 minutes for a picture to appear when I turn it on?

lcd picture
babs asked:

The sound works fine but the picture doesn’t appear, instead a red glow appears (as if from behind the screen) in different places, then disappears again.
After about 5 minutes the picture appears fine.
Why is this?

The backlight might need to be repaired. Most backlights are really fluorescent lamps so they have fluorescent lamp tubes and a ballast. Either the ballast or circuitry around it is bad or the lamps need replacement. Take it to a TV Service Technician for an estimate unless it is under warranty. Under warranty they should fix this (pending rules of the warranty) and out of warranty it should not cost too much compared to the cost of a new set unless this is a really small tv set.

LCD projection? If so, replace the LAMP…

LCD Panel TV? If so, the Backlight inverter OR the Backlight balancer is faulty causing a problem…..

After 5 minutes, a component warms up enough to Start functioning correctly all the time…..
