Why does my Cannon PowerShot S230 does not show any picture on the LCD monitor when I turn it on?

lcd picture
Jay asked:

Ditital camera Cannon PowerShot S230 will not show anything on the LCD monitor when I turn it on. What is the problem?
I can not take pictures because when I turn on the camera I can not see anything in the LCD monitor. It seem like there is nothing going through the lense and showing up in the LCD monitor. What could be the problem that the lcd is blank?

Does the LCD screen show at all?

If not, hit the Display button a few times.

Otherwise if it shows up fine while taking pictures go to Menu>Tools [the hammer and nail] and choose your startup picture.

At least that is were my mom’s camera “opening message” is. Check that because you might have hit something.

If that doesn’t work, Reset All Setings

Try turning the camera on…then press the DISP button on the back of the camera, one, two or three times. This button turns the LCD on or off, as well as the screen info on/off.

If this doesn’t work, then I suppose you have a problem with the LCD.
The only real solution is to update to a newer model, as the S230 is now well over 4 1/2 years old, and any thought of repair would be a waste of money.
Canon has some great new SD models (Ixus, Digital Elph) available which are worth looking at. The benefit being…newer and faster technology, better quality photos & movie mode, more features and a larger LCD screen.
    good luck
