Both plasma and LCD have the 'screen-door' effect when looking close up. Plasma seems worse than LCD so if close seating is an issue, go with LCD.

In terms of which look better - there is no clear winner: both are outstanding with true HD material. If you calibrated both with a calibration disk, you could not tell the difference.

You should look for:

- Number of HDMI and Component inputs. You want as many as possible.
- HDMI 1.3 support
- Does the TV let you jump straight to an input or do you have to toggle AntA->AntB->SVideo->.... The superior units lets you jump straight to an input. This also makes universal remotes work better.
- Does the TV have separate brightness/contrast/color setting for each input? The superior TV's have independent settings for each input so it can be adjusted for your CATV box, your DVD player, etc.
- Does the TV have a black bezel/frame around the screen? Black bezel's help improve the contrast a bit.

I have a Sony LCD that is an XBR model. I think it looks awesome. You don't have to worry about burnout with an LCD.
