If I have an LCD TV, do I need a receiver AND an HD antenna to get a good picture?

Sucka MC asked:

Is it possible to just use an HD antenna plugged straight into the TV? I don’t want to have to buy cable, but I want an LCD TV for DVD’s and video games. I just want to know what I need to watch regular TV channels and get a good picture.
I live in an apartment, so I’ll be usnig an indoor antenna.

You need a TV with a built-in ATSC receiver. You can then hook-up an antenna to it and receive over the air DTV, including HDTV.
How good an antenna you’ll need depends on where you are relative to the transmitters.

    Update
If other people in your area are able to use an indoor antenna, you should be able to. Radio Shack on line has a large variety of antennas. Some are available in the store. If you’re in the US, stop by your local one and ask them what works in your arera.
BTW, there is no such thing as an HD antenna-an antenna is an antenna-the HD antenna thing is marketing nonsense.
