How do i make the picture on my LCD tv better?

lcd picture
USCfanFORlife asked:

I have an LG LCD T.V and its 720p. The picture is decent but its not great. I don’t have a cable box and I just have regular basic cable. What cables should I get to make the picture better and how do I hook them up? A diagram of some sort would be nice.
yeah our t/v has a built in tuner.

Well, its basic cable, and some TV’s display it better than others, as I’ve heard. My sharp lcd tv looks like crap with basic cable. I mean, unless you want to get digital cable (which looks a lot better than basic cable), there isnt much you can do. Ensure a good connection to your tv, make sure the cable going in to your room doesnt have a splitter. If your connection is split too many times, you’ll have to get an amplifier (our cable company hooked up an amplifier for us).

To take advantage of that 720P HD, you’ll need an HD cable box from the cable company. Remember, with basic cable, your only taking 480 lines of resolution from the 720 you have. If you want crystal clear HD without a cable box, you can get digital HD signals over-the-air with an antenna for free, but you need a digital tuner in your tv. Does your tv have a digital ATSC tuner? (if your interested post the model number and i’ll look it up)

Do what Andrew said and turn on the ‘Video NR’ in your picture menu and turn off the DNie and take it off the Vivid preset. Also make sure your cable outlet spigot has no paint on it, if it does replace it and get RG6 cable that is the quality that a cable or satellite tech would use.

You need a calibration disc to maximize your Vizio settings. Rent from Blockbuster a DVD entitled “The Incredibles,” in which there is a “Set Up” option called “THX Optimizer.” Following the simple instructions and your TV will be set to the current movie industry standards for TV viewing.

    Good luck!
