I was at a store where they had an analog signal playing over 42″ LCD HDTVs. The picture was horribly pixelated (the Westinghouse TV wasn’t as bad, but the Phillips TVs were). Is there a way to avoid this? I still watch some analog channels and that could get annoying.

I’m a very conservative man so dropping a couple of grand on a tv has been out of the question for me until recently. As I’ve never owned a hi-def set I had a couple of questions.
1. What is the best method of signal input, I see they have hdmi, component, etc.
2. Do I need a home theater package?
3. Do I need a power conditioner?

I just bought a 46 in. samsung lcd 1080p tv and when I hooked it up to the dish receiver the picture was really bad. I was told that the picture would be the same quality as a tube tv if I did not have hd programming. I called dish and was told I would have to pay 150.00 for a new hd receiver and upgrade to hd programming. Is there anything I can do to get the picture to look better. For right now I just want a clear picture like my old tv.
So I ungraded to my dish service to hd and got a hdmi cable and the picture still looks bad. Even the hd channels look bad. I changed the picture from 16:9 to 4:3 it all looks the same. The only time the picture is clear and hd quality is when I am looking at the on screen guide and the picture shrinks to the corner. Could it be the TV? It’s a 46″ Samsung 530 1080p 60hz.
